Whether you’re a car owner or a part of the car wash and auto detailing industry (or maybe you’re just interested), it is important to know what certain terms mean in the car wash world. It’s also really beneficial to stay on top of the new trends. When faced with many different options and new vocabulary, you’ll have wished that you knew what everything meant before making a decision. As each word means something slightly different, we’re here to educate you and help you make informed decisions.

Types of Car Washes

Manual VS Automatic

While automatic is more commonly offered, manual car washes are still available in some places. Manual car wash refers to when a person does the majority of the work when washing and cleaning the car, while automatic refers to machinery taking over the work without any people involved. Automatic car washes are far more common, with machinery being a preferred service.

In-Bay VS Tunnel

An in-bay car wash has the car parked, with the people or machinery moving around the car. A tunnel car wash is when you have to align your car onto the conveyor belt, put it in neutral, and watch it move forward throughout the automatic car wash’s steps.

Touchless VS Friction

A touchless car wash does not physically touch the car, but uses a combination of high pressure water and chemical solutions to wash the car. A friction car wash uses cloths, brushes and other machinery that actually touches the car to clean it. You will typically see large, round brushes touching the car at a friction car wash.

Express Wash

The most common car wash, the express car wash refers to an automated, tunnel car wash. They usually have a pay machine or attendant at the beginning of the tunnel before you put your car in neutral and enjoy watching your car being washed by the machinery. You’ll often find vacuums available at the end of the tunnel car wash l for customers to clean the inside of their cars at this type of car wash.promo car care tunnel wash

What is car Detailing?

This is a service that deep cleans a particular part of the car.  There are two types of car detailing:

Internal car Detailing

This service focuses on cleaning the inside of the car. A person will detail a car by deep cleaning your (leather or fabric) seats, the carpet on your floor, the interior panels and plastic, and all of the surfaces inside.

External car Detailing

Also known as a full service car wash, this features a wash, wax, polish, headlight restoration, clay bar treatment and/or external vinyl conditioning, all done by a person. So, this is essentially a service that cleans the outside of your car (like a regular car wash), but with extra-added features.

External Vinyl Conditioning

Many newer models have a vinyl trim/moulding on the bottom of their cars and this treatment restores its colour, and fixes any cracking or damage that may have occurred to it.
